Benin: Opening of the trial of the alleged perpetrators of violence in Ekpè

The Court for the Repression of Economic Crimes and Terrorism (CRIET) has opened the trial of six defendants in the case of torture of a woman in Ekpè, following the release of shocking videos. The events, which occurred on the night of April 21-22, 2026, involve accusations of theft and severe acts of violence. The 38-year-old victim was hospitalized and suffers from mental health issues. The victim's family is demanding justice and expects sanctions against the alleged perpetrators.
