Romuald Wadagni was elected president of Benin with 94.05% of the votes, according to provisional results from the National Independent Electoral Commission. As the Minister of Finance and candidate of the ruling majority, he succeeds Patrice Talon. His only opponent, Paul Hounkpè, acknowledged his defeat with 5.95% of the votes, and the voter turnout was 58.75%. The president of the Cena stated that the outcome of the election was irreversible.
