Benin: a man arrested with 840,000 FCFA in counterfeit banknotes – La Nouvelle Tribune

A man suspected of possessing and using counterfeit banknotes was arrested and placed under a committal order on July 14, 2026, by the Court of First Instance of Parakou. Investigators seized 84 fake 10,000 FCFA notes, with a face value of 840,000 FCFA, including 81 found in Nikki and 3 on the suspect during his arrest in Tchikandou. The suspect confessed and claimed to belong to a network led by a woman in Bembèrèkè, but checks did not confirm these statements. The case was sent to the prosecutor and the suspect was presented to the court, which ordered his detention.

He further claimed that the individual alleged to have collected a ₦400 million bribe on Gbajabiamila's behalf has died under mysterious circumstances, and the hotel used for the transaction has been demolished. Adeyemi was arrested after a warrant was issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges of forgery, fraud, and impersonation.
