Benue: Gov Alia unveils 2026 fertiliser distribution exercise, subsidises product by 51%

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State announced a 51% subsidy on fertiliser, sold at ₦28,000 per bag, during the launch of the 2026 distribution exercise in Makurdi. The programme covers all 23 local government areas and is part of a broader agricultural policy to boost food security, expand cultivated land through land aggregation, and promote rural economic development. The government increased fertiliser volumes to support commercial agriculture, while building rural roads and expanding irrigation. Commissioner Benjamin Ashaver assured strict monitoring to ensure quality inputs reach genuine farmers.
