The United States has imposed sanctions on former Congolese president Joseph Kabila, accusing him of contributing to instability in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Kabila, who led the country from 2001 to 2019, is now on the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) blacklist, resulting in the freezing of his assets in the US and prohibiting business relations with him. Washington accuses him of supporting the armed group M23 and the Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC).
