Cameroon's Biya Appoints Son Vice President, Head of Armed Forces

Cameroon President Paul Biya has appointed his son, Franck Emmanuel Biya, as Vice President, Head of the Armed Forces, and Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Defence, consolidating executive and military authority. These appointments were confirmed in a presidential decree dated April 4, 2026, amid rising political tensions following a contested presidential election. Biya, who was re-elected for an eighth term, faces allegations of electoral fraud from his main challenger, Issa Tchiroma Bakary.
