Community leaders step in as extortion threatens Langa religious school

The Cape Town Ulama Board had to intervene to help a non-profit religious school in Langa open a case of extortion after its directors were allegedly turned away by police. A criminal syndicate demanded a R3000 registration fee and monthly payments of R500. The school paid the initial fee fearing for safety. The incident comes amid a renewed push by authorities for communities to report extortion.
