On July 13, 2026, 12 Burkinabe diplomats led by former Chargé d'affaires Jean Marie Bakouan arrived in Ouagadougou after the closure of the Burkina Faso embassy in Paris. They were received by Foreign Minister Jean-Marie Karamoko Traoré. Bakouan handed over the national flag and keys to the premises, sealing the severance of diplomatic relations decided on June 26, 2026. No member of the delegation sought asylum in France, and the return was completed in seven days under dignified conditions.
