Ivory Coast: government defends housing demolitions

The Ivorian government launched a new housing demolition campaign in the Vridi 3 neighborhood near the port of Abidjan. Authorities claim to demolish dangerous structures and reorganize urban space, but residents denounce evictions without sufficient notice or rehousing. In 2023 and 2024, a first wave of demolitions had already displaced tens of thousands of residents.
