A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck the southern Philippines, killing at least 37 people and injuring 400. Rescue teams in General Santos are searching for two people still trapped in the rubble of a collapsed commercial building, where 13 people died. The city of about 720,000 has been placed under a state of calamity. Strong aftershocks, including a magnitude 6.5, were recorded, and tsunami warnings were issued.
