Court declares National Assembly’s N110bn SUV and allowance schemes unlawful

The Federal High Court in Lagos declared unlawful the National Assembly's N110 billion vehicle and allowance schemes, ruling that spending N40 billion on 465 vehicles and N70 billion in allowances for new lawmakers breached procurement laws and constitutional obligations. Justice Yellim Bogoro ordered Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas to ensure future procurements comply with due process and transparency. The judgment followed a lawsuit filed by SERAP in August 2023 amid economic hardship.
