Court rejects FCCPC’s fresh bid to stop airtime lending

A Federal High Court in Lagos has denied the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) application to vacate the interim injunction preventing it from enforcing disputed provisions of the 2025 Digital, Electronic, Online or Non-Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations. Judge A. Lewis-Allagoa upheld the injunction, thereby protecting mobile value-added service providers offering airtime lending until a final judicial determination is made. WASPAN argued that certain provisions of the FCCPC regulations exceed the commission's statutory powers and impose unlawful compliance burdens on licensed telecom service providers.
