Cryptocurrencies in Africa: $205 billion in transactions made in 2025

Sub-Saharan Africa recorded $117.1 billion in cryptocurrency transactions between July 2023 and June 2024, marking a 52% growth from the previous year. Nigeria leads the African market with $92 billion, while countries like Ethiopia and Ivory Coast also show increasing adoption. However, this expansion is overshadowed by scams and an insufficient legal framework, prompting the BCEAO to hold a meeting in Dakar to discuss these issues.
