India’s ‘Cockroach’ leaders detained; New Delhi in lockdown

Over 1,000 protesters, including opposition politicians, journalists, student leaders, lawyers, and founders of the satirical 'Cockroach' (CJP) youth movement, were detained by police in New Delhi during a demonstration demanding the resignation of Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protest, organized by the CJP and other youth groups, targeted the revision of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR), which they allege benefits the BJP. The city was placed under lockdown with extensive police deployment, internet shutdowns, and closures of metro stations and markets to prevent the protest.
