‘Dahomey’: Why this is not your typical documentary

Mati Diop's documentary _Dahomey_ explores the repatriation of 26 stolen artefacts from a museum in Paris back to modern-day Benin with an artistic and visually engaging approach. The narration employs a surreal voice-over to bring the sculptures to life, while the absence of music in the first half compels the viewer to focus on the significance of the events. However, a segment in the middle, featuring young people debating the significance of the return, disrupts the flow of the film.
