Dangote Refinery Exceeds Official Capacity, Reaches 700,000 Barrels Per Day

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals in Lekki, Nigeria, increased its processing capacity to 700,000 barrels per day (bpd) during a performance test on June 4, 2026, surpassing its official capacity of 650,000 bpd achieved in February 2026. Owned by Aliko Dangote, it holds several world records and aims to double capacity to 1.4 million bpd within 30 months, potentially making it the world's largest refinery. The expansion is intended to boost Nigeria's energy self-sufficiency and its role as a regional export hub, as Middle East instability drives African countries to source from it.
