65-year-old South African swimmer killed by shark off east coast

Janine Lochrenberg, 65, was killed in a shark attack on Tuesday morning while swimming off Orient Beach in KuGompo City, South Africa. She was on her regular morning swim with a local open-water swimming club and was bitten on the thigh and upper arm; fellow swimmers brought her towards shore, but she is believed to have died in the water. Her sister, Margot, and partner, Barbara Briceland, remembered her love of the water and her bravery; the couple had been preparing for a three-week road trip. Orient Beach and a nearby beach were closed, and the attack was the first recorded fatal shark incident in South Africa this year.
