Socio-political actors plead for MONUSCO support to restore peace in Ituri

Since March 2026, attacks attributed to the ADF have multiplied in the chieftaincies of Babila-Babombi and Babila-Bakwanza in the Mambasa territory of Ituri, affecting more than twenty villages and causing loss of life, mass displacements, and paralysis of socio-economic activities. Local actors from Bunia, meeting on June 15 organized by MONUSCO, called for increased support from the UN mission to the FARDC to neutralize the ADF and the Wazalendo groups collaborating with them. Michel Meta, president of UNADI, stressed the need to sustainably restore security and state authority in the region.
