Mzimkhulu Binda, 48, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Welkom Regional Court for the brutal rape of a 21-year-old woman in 2006. The perpetrator, wearing a balaclava, pepper-sprayed the victim, raped her twice, and kidnapped her. The conviction was achieved through a breakthrough in forensic science and DNA technology, welcomed by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
