Distress at Punia Prison in Maniema Following the Death of a Starving Inmate

The central prison of Punia in Maniema province is facing an alarming situation following the death of an inmate, worsened by a lack of food and funding. Inmates survive thanks to the help of goodwill individuals, with some going up to three days without eating. The prison, built in 1940, is in a state of advanced disrepair and overcrowded, with an initial capacity of 250 inmates. Prison authorities are making an urgent appeal to improve detention conditions.
