'Doctors under siege': Resident doctors threaten nationwide strike - Vanguard News

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) threatened a nationwide strike over escalating assaults, harassment, and intimidation of healthcare workers. At least 17 tertiary hospitals reported attacks in one year. The outrage was sparked by the controversial arrest of Professor Eyo Ekpe, a cardiothoracic surgeon, by the EFCC at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, leading the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Akwa Ibom State to launch an indefinite strike. NARD demands concrete steps from the federal government by the end of its May 2026 Ordinary General Meeting, or it will not guarantee industrial peace.
