DRC: American James Swan takes office as head of MONUSCO

American diplomat James Swan has officially taken over as head of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the DRC. His appointment coincides with the implementation of Security Council resolution 2808, which redefines MONUSCO's mandate. The mission's planned withdrawal has been suspended until December 20, 2026, due to the deteriorating security situation in the eastern regions of the country.
