Farmer-herder clashes threat to West Africa - Deputy Senate President warns, seeks regional action

The Deputy President of the Senate and First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Barau Jibrin, called for stronger regional mechanisms to prevent farmer-herder conflicts in West Africa. He warned that ongoing deadly land and water disputes could lead to displacement, banditry, terrorism, and humanitarian crises across the region. Speaking at an ECOWAS Parliament session in Accra, he emphasized Nigeria's experience in managing displacement and resource conflicts, advocating for coordinated efforts among government agencies, traditional institutions, and legislative measures to address these issues.
