EFCC orders probe into alleged assault of UUTH professor

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has ordered an investigation into an altercation between its operatives and staff of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), which allegedly led to the brutalization of Professor Eyo Ekpe, a prominent cardiologist in Nigeria. Following the incident on May 12, doctors and other health workers have embarked on an indefinite strike, despite the Chief Medical Director of UUTH, Prof. Ememabasi Bassey, appealing for a return to work for the sake of critically ill patients. The EFCC stated that any staff member found to have deviated from the agency's Standard Operating Procedure would face sanctions.
