After Guinea banned artisanal gold mining on November 2, thousands of foreign workers, mostly Burkinabè and Malians, were expelled. Mali’s CECOGEC reported that nearly 160,000 people were in the country: about 100,000 in the Bamako district and 60,000 in Kouremalé, where six deaths and injuries were recorded. Mali and Burkina Faso deployed buses and trucks to arrange returns, transporting about 3,430 people on November 5 and nearly 15,000 more from November 6. A total of 413 expelled people received treatment at health facilities in Bamako.
