Egypt: Significant Gas Discovery Off the Coast

The Italian group ENI announced the discovery of a natural gas field off the Mediterranean coast of Egypt, estimated to contain about 2,000 billion cubic feet of gas and 130 million barrels of condensate. This discovery is strategic for Cairo, which seeks to reduce its dependence on energy imports, exacerbated by geopolitical tensions. The government hopes this new reserve will increase national production and lower energy costs.
