Nuclear Energy: Rwanda Sets Ambitious Goals for 2050

Rwanda has strengthened its cooperation with the IAEA during a summit in Kigali, where it received a report on its nuclear infrastructure. The country plans to make nuclear energy operational in the 2030s and aims for it to represent over 60% of its energy mix by 2050. President Paul Kagame praised the progress made, particularly in legal and technological areas, and announced a focus on small modular reactors. The Rwanda Atomic Energy Board has been established to oversee the development of civil nuclear energy.
