Two-month training aims to professionalize fish farmers in Maniema
In response to low fish production in Maniema, the province’s Union of Aquaculture Farmers’ Associations launched a two-month training program for fish farmers in Kindu on November 7. Ali Lutimba Omari, the organization’s board chair, said it will strengthen participants’ technical, administrative and financial skills and address artisanal practices that limit yields. He noted that some farmers have large ponds but harvest only a few fingerlings after months of work, contributing to food insecurity. Trained participants will later support other fish farmers, with practical sessions planned in Kalima and Kayuyu.
