Ruto Appoints Former Principal Secretary Nelson Marwa as Chair of Nairobi Rivers Commission

Kenyan President William Ruto appointed Nelson Marwa chair of the Nairobi Rivers Commission for a three-year term beginning October 16, 2026. The appointment, published in an official notice, revokes that of Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, who was appointed in October 2024 and announced her intention to leave the post in August 2026. Marwa previously served as Principal Secretary for Devolution under Uhuru Kenyatta, as well as Coast Regional Coordinator and Mombasa County Commissioner. The commission coordinates rehabilitation and protection of the Nairobi River Basin, including ecological restoration and pollution control.
