UAE authorities stated that the Flydubai co-pilot who attempted to seize control of a plane on September 30 was on a ‘suicide’ mission to crash at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport. Attorney General Hamad Saif al-Shamsi said the plan was inspired by the September 11 attacks. Investigators found that the 29-year-old suspect, who had worked for several airlines, used two previous flights to Tel Aviv to familiarize himself with the route and airport, and met all professional and security requirements during his recruitment with Flydubai.
