Woman who dispossessed mother of newborn jailed for child trafficking

The Federal High Court in Calabar convicted Ms. Mbika Edem, also known as Ikwo, for conspiracy and child trafficking. She was found guilty of conspiring with a nurse to induce Ms. Mercy Ekanem to deliver prematurely through deception and subsequently sold the baby to an unidentified buyer. Edem was sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of 2 million Naira, along with a 500,000 Naira compensation to the victim.
