Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has submitted the Finance Bill 2026 to Parliament, introducing new taxes on the mitumba industry, mobile phone imports, and gambling activities. Smartphones will now attract a 25% excise duty upon activation. Additionally, a 20% tax will be imposed on betting winnings, and the definition of taxable deposits in betting accounts will be expanded to include all funds for gambling purposes.
