First Russian shadow fleet tanker enters Channel since Smyrtos boarding

The Russian shadow fleet tanker Forwarder entered the English Channel on Wednesday evening, the first such vessel since UK forces boarded the Smyrtos on Sunday. The ship, sanctioned by the UK, US, and EU in 2025 and renamed twice, is carrying oil from Primorsk to China. The Royal Navy deployed HMS Tyne nearby, while the Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich, involved in an incident on Tuesday, has not moved far from the area.

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, linked the world energy crisis to the conflict involving the United States, Iran, and Israel. He stated that the Dangote Refinery prevented Nigeria's economy from sliding into crisis by stabilizing fuel prices and providing a strategic advantage. The refinery increased its production capacity to 700,000 barrels per day and now exports to several African and European countries, as well as the United States and Saudi Arabia.
