Sudan: 17 Sudanese Refugees Drown Off Tobruk, Libya

The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) confirmed that at least 17 Sudanese refugees drowned after a shipwreck in the Mediterranean off the Libyan coast. Of the 33 people on board, only seven survived, and nine are still missing. Since the outbreak of war in Sudan in 2023, over 559,000 Sudanese refugees have arrived in Libya, where many live in informal camps, exposed to violence and exploitation.
