Erik ten Hag on Cristiano Ronaldo: “Since Juventus, it’s simply been over”

Speaking on ESPN Netherlands’ Goedemorgen Eredivisie on November 1, 2026, Erik ten Hag looked back on working with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United in 2022. The current FC Twente technical director called Ronaldo one of the greatest players in history but said he had no longer been able to deliver since moving to Juventus in 2018. Ten Hag praised Real Madrid for letting the Portuguese forward go at the right time and said he had dropped Ronaldo in the interests of the team. Ronaldo left Manchester United in November 2022 after a controversial interview with Piers Morgan; Ten Hag was sacked in October 2024.
