US midterm elections 2026 in maps and charts

On November 3, about 210 million registered voters will determine the makeup of Congress and how much power Donald Trump has for the rest of his presidency. All 435 House seats and 35 of the Senate’s 100 seats are contested, along with special elections in Florida and Ohio to replace Marco Rubio and JD Vance. Voters in 36 states will also elect governors, as well as state legislators and local officials. Since 1946, the president’s party has lost an average of 26.5 House seats in midterm elections, according to professor Todd Belt.

Algeria’s president orders troop deployment to neighbouring Niger

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has ordered troops to Niger to protect energy and economic interests shared by the two countries. The presidency said Nigerien authorities requested military assistance, and both chambers of Algeria’s parliament approved the deployment at an emergency session on Sunday. Senator Belkacem Boulghiti said the soldiers would protect economic infrastructure, particularly Algerian oil facilities, and would not be sent to wage war. The number of troops and their arrival date have not been announced; if carried out, this would be Algeria’s first overseas military deployment since 1973.

Lies can't hide Tinubu's failures, ADC tells APC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) accused the ruling APC of trying to conceal President Bola Tinubu’s failures with lies and propaganda. In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, the party responded to Solid Minerals Development Minister Dele Alake, who had said the ADC had nothing to offer Nigerians. The opposition said Nigerians are facing hunger and hardship and accused Tinubu of failing on the economy, security and governance. It predicted voters would remove him from office in 2027 and challenged the APC to provide evidence for its claims.
