FIFA: Infantino’s Fourth Term Faces Challenge at CAS

Miguel Maduro, former chair of FIFA’s Governance Committee, disputes the legality of a possible fourth candidacy by Gianni Infantino and urges his opponents to take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). He argues that Article 33, paragraph 2, of FIFA’s statutes limits presidents to three terms and that Infantino has already served them. FIFA does not count Infantino’s initial term, which began in 2016 to complete Sepp Blatter’s term, toward the limit; Maduro rejects that interpretation. A fourth candidacy could therefore lead to a legal confrontation at CAS.
