Macron tours East Africa amid push to redefine France’s role in Africa

French President Emmanuel Macron has started a tour of East Africa to rebuild Paris's influence on the continent after a series of setbacks, particularly in its former West African colonies. He began his visit in Egypt and will travel to Kenya and Ethiopia, where he will co-host a summit on economic cooperation. This summit in Kenya will be the first in an Anglophone country attended by Macron since he took office in 2017.
