Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline: Algeria, Nigeria and Niger validate the feasibility study

On June 3, 2026, Algeria hosted the fifth ministerial meeting of the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) steering committee. The ministers of Hydrocarbons from Algeria (Mohamed Arkab), Nigeria (Ekperikpe Ekpo), and Niger (Hamadou Tini) approved the final updated feasibility study. They decided to start construction on the Algerian section of the pipeline, which is over 4,000 km long and will connect the Niger Delta to Algerian coasts to supply European markets. The project competes with the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline.

CBN releases FX guidelines, approves export of $50,000

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued new Foreign Exchange Guidelines allowing an individual to export up to $50,000 in cash, provided it is declared at the point of exit. Exports or imports of $10,000 or less remain without declaration. Amounts above $50,000 require evidence of transaction through an Authorised Dealer. Authorised Dealer Banks may import currency for local cash needs subject to CBN approval.

Signing of contracts for the paving of over 200 km of road between Mbanga and Lualaba

Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works John Banza Lunda signed three contracts on June 3, 2026 in Kinshasa with Chinese firms China First Highway Engineering Company Limited, Sinohydro Bureau 14, and the China Jiangxi International Economic group for the paving of 206 km of road from Mbanga to the Lualaba River and the construction of a 714-meter bridge. These works, funded by the World Bank under the Connectivity and Transport Support Project (PACT), add to the 280 km already under construction between Mbuji-Mayi, Kabinda, and Mbanga, bringing the modernized network to 480 km. The project aims to build the country's first modern 2x2 highway connecting Mbuji-Mayi to Bukavu.
