Constitutional Council: Article 54 Complicates Things for Ousmane Sonko

Opposition deputies have seized the Constitutional Council to challenge Ousmane Sonko's reinstatement to the National Assembly, invoking Article 54 of the Constitution. According to expert Alioune Souaré, this invocation forces the high court to rule on the merits of the case, unlike previous appeals often rejected for inadmissibility. Article 54 states that membership in the government is incompatible with a parliamentary mandate.
