Bukavu: at least 6 schools damaged by torrential rains in Panzi

At least six schools in Panzi and Mudusa in South Kivu province were damaged by heavy rains in Bukavu on October 8, 2026. These include E.P Luhinzo, E.P Sinelac, E.P Les Anges, Saint Jean primary school in Kasihe, Emmaüs primary school, as well as Manassé Institute, Don Béni Institute, and Mapinduzi Institute. The local civil society reports damage to homes, torn metal fences, fallen electrical poles, and warns of electrocution and power outages. They call for urgent action to secure schools and assist affected households, following rains that previously caused three deaths, floods, and wall collapses.
