Storm Adam’s torrential rain has killed four people in eastern Spain: two in Oliva, one on a beach in Sagunto and another swept into a swollen stream in Catalonia. Parts of the Valencia region received as much as 700 litres of rain per square metre in 24 hours, causing floods, evacuations and isolating several towns. Security forces carried out more than 400 rescues in Valencia, while shelter-in-place orders were reduced from 800,000 residents to 87,000 on Monday. Floodwaters piled vehicles on top of one another in Els Poblets as residents tried to salvage their belongings.
