American swimmer Gretchen Walsh set a new world record in the 100-meter butterfly at 54.33 seconds during the Fort Lauderdale Open in Florida. She improved her previous record of 54.60 seconds, which she had set in the same pool last year. At 23 years old, Walsh is now over a second faster than the second-fastest woman in history, Sarah Sjostrom, who swam 55.48 seconds.
