Renaissance of Vodun Heritage in Benin: The Need for Harmonization of Practices and Discourses

Benin is experiencing a cultural and spiritual revival due to reforms by President Patrice Talon's government, including the establishment of the Vodun Rites Committee and the promotion of Vodun Days. However, the diversity of ritual practices and contradictory discourses among dignitaries pose a challenge for harmonization. To legitimize Vodun, it is essential to develop a unique glossary and an ethical code. These measures aim to restore Vodun's status as a major heritage and clarify spiritual teachings.
