U.S. Pledges Ksh6.5 Billion to Ebola Countermeasure Funding as Outbreak Expands

The U.S. government has increased funding for Ebola containment by Ksh6.5 billion ($50 million) to develop countermeasures for the Bundibugyo strain. The outbreak has killed 139 in the DRC and spread to Uganda with two deaths. Kenya remains free of confirmed cases but has halted construction of a quarantine facility in Laikipia following a High Court order.
