Customs and Afreximbank Plan Nigeria-Benin and Cameroon Border Upgrades

The Nigeria Customs Service has opened discussions with Afreximbank on modernising Nigeria’s borders with Benin and Cameroon to improve trade and cross-border movement. At a meeting in Cairo led by Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, participants reviewed assessments of the Sèmè–Kraké and Mfum–Ekok corridors and considered infrastructure, harmonised customs procedures and secure data exchange. A proposed Customs Declaration Exchange System would connect Nigeria’s B’Odogwu platform with Benin’s Customs Webb and Cameroon’s CAMCIS, while each national customs administration would retain responsibility for validating information and authorising clearance. Before deployment, the system still needs country-specific configuration, technical integration, security assurance and pilot testing.
