US Federal Judge Blocks Trump’s Massive Arch Project

Federal Judge Tanya Chutkan barred the Trump administration from beginning construction of a 250-foot arch for two weeks while the court reviews legal challenges. Her ruling came hours after the National Capital Planning Commission approved the project in an 8-4 vote. Veterans and the attorneys general of Washington and Virginia sued to halt construction, citing concerns including the site near Arlington National Cemetery, the lack of congressional funding and questions about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s claims of military use. More than 100 speakers opposed the project, which is inspired by Paris’s Arc de Triomphe and would stand taller than the Lincoln Memorial.
