Hashim urges Tinubu, INEC to uphold electoral act, allow September party primaries

Former presidential candidate Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that political parties are allowed to conduct their primaries in September, in line with the provisions of the 2026 Electoral Act. In an open letter, he expressed concerns that the current electoral timetable could weaken internal democracy and undermine the credibility of the 2027 general elections. Hashim also urged reforms to strengthen electoral credibility and suggested that the President advise INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan to step aside for the reconstitution of a more credible electoral commission.
