Hill-Lewis axes Steenhuisen

DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis has requested President Cyril Ramaphosa to remove John Steenhuisen as Agriculture Minister and replace him with Willie Aucamp, citing poor handling of the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak. Steenhuisen would be demoted to Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition. David Maynier, Western Cape Education MEC, would be promoted to Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. Hill-Lewis said the reshuffles reflect the DA's commitment to accountability and high performance.

Iran-USA Accord: President Pezeshkian Reveals the Details of the Agreement

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday, June 18, posted on X the text of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, signed the previous day. Called the Islamabad Memorandum, the 14-point agreement establishes an immediate cessation of hostilities, the lifting of the US naval blockade within 30 days, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. It also includes the gradual lifting of sanctions, release of frozen Iranian assets, and a $300 billion reconstruction plan. The nuclear issue is deferred to negotiations with a status quo and IAEA supervision, while Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed immediate implementation.
