KMA Proposes Changes to Marine Accident and Fishing Work Regulations

The Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) is seeking public input on revised rules for reporting and investigating marine accidents and new regulations governing work in fishing. The proposals set standards for fishers’ employment agreements, rest periods, onboard accommodation, medical care, safety training and social protection. They aim to strengthen maritime safety and align Kenya’s framework with international labour standards, including the ILO Work in Fishing Convention, which Kenya ratified in 2022. Members of the public can submit comments by email until November 30.
